The Texas Czech Heritage and Cultural Center was delighted to welcome our very first Vacation Bible School group this week as participants from Queen of the Holy Rosary Catholic Church in Hostyn, and St. Peter and Paul in Plum, Texas, spent a day exploring faith, history, culture, and community at our campus.
Throughout the day, the children experienced a unique blend of learning and fun as they explored the Czech Village, participated in classroom activities, coloring projects, music, and dance in Hanslik Hall, and enjoyed a special lesson inside the beautiful Mary Magdalene Chapel. The day was filled with opportunities for the students to learn about their faith while also discovering the rich cultural heritage of the Czech settlers who helped shape our region.
One of the highlights of the day was watching the children enjoy music and fellowship together before cooling off with popsicles on the deck. Their excitement, curiosity, and enthusiasm made for a memorable experience for everyone involved.
We are especially grateful to Holy Rosary Catholic Church for choosing TCHCC as the location for their Vacation Bible School activities. It was an honor to host the students, volunteers, and leaders who made the day such a success.
As we welcomed these young visitors, we were reminded that the story of Czech heritage in Texas is deeply connected to faith. Visitors to TCHCC can explore our Religious Heritage Exhibit, which features artifacts, documents, and displays highlighting the important role that priests, ministers, churches, and religious communities played in the lives of early Czech settlers. These exhibits help preserve the spiritual history that accompanied the cultural traditions brought to Texas by our ancestors.
We encourage other Vacation Bible School programs, parish groups, youth ministries, and families throughout the region to consider TCHCC as a destination for educational and faith-based activities. Our campus offers a unique setting where history, culture, faith, and hands-on learning come together to create meaningful experiences for children and adults alike.
