Hoelscher House (Polka Lovers Club)

Hoelscher House (Polka Lovers Club)

The Hoelscher House, built in the late 1870s by the Anton and Elizabeth Bruese Hoelscher family, is a cherished venue dedicated to celebrating Czech music and dance traditions. Donated to the Center by Henry and Esther Hoelscher, the house was moved to the site in 2005 and restored through the efforts of the Polka Lovers Club and volunteers.

The two-story house features two rooms upstairs and two downstairs, with a welcoming front porch. It houses memorabilia, photographs, and musical instruments that tell the story of Czech musical heritage in Texas. The house is alive with the joyful sounds of polka and folk music, keeping traditions vibrant and connecting generations through the universal language of music.

In 2016, the Msgr. Joseph M. Hybner Addition was dedicated, providing modern meeting spaces, restrooms, and a catered kitchen, enhancing the house’s functionality for events and gatherings. The Hoelscher House remains a vibrant cultural hub for members passionate about preserving Czech musical traditions.
